  • Moore Stephens Merger Creates One of Largest CPA Associations in North America

January 1, 2006 – Mark A. Crawford, CPA, Managing Director of Doeren Mayhew, known internationally as Moore Stephens Doeren Mayhew, has announced that Moore Stephens North America, Inc. and The Global Alliance have merged to create one of the largest U.S. CPA firm associations, with 35 firms and revenues of over $600 million.

The association will continue to be known as Moore Stephens North America (MSNA) which is a more established name in the accounting industry, and the new organization will still be part of Moore Stephens International Limited (MSIL). Doeren Mayhew has been a member of Moore Stephens since 1980. The worldwide MSIL network, based in London, consists of over 330 leading independent accounting and consulting firms with more than 500 offices, in over 90 countries with total worldwide revenues of almost $1.4 billion.

The enhanced Moore Stephens network will provide numerous benefits to members, and in turn, to their clients including:

As-needed network collaboration on client engagements, domestically and internationally, provides efficiencies and exceptional service to our clients

Added geographical scope, covering virtually every major city, allows for comprehensive client service throughout North America

Collective experience and staff resources enhance members’ ability to serve the diverse needs of international clients

Comparing best practices will allow for more efficient delivery of products and services

Enhanced MSNA talent pool will enable members to be more aggressive in providing new services and will add much more depth in all of our industries to further benefit clients

Crawford states, “Moore Stephens, as the 12th largest accounting network worldwide, is already well-known internationally, and the addition of so many quality firms in the United States further enhances the Moore Stephens brand. The added firms possess talent and experience which further differentiate firms like Doeren Mayhew as a viable alternative to national firms.”

Records Retention Guide

  • It is important to hold onto your business records in case of an IRS audit or other examination. Retaining unnecessary records, however, will soon exceed the storage space available for most businesses. Therefore, you may wish to establish a records retention schedule that takes into account state and federal regulations, as well as industry standards. Use this handy schedule as a general guideline when determining which records you should keep. If you have questions about destroying any tax or accounting records, please contact your Doeren Mayhew representative at 248.244.3000

The IRS’s website (www.irs.gov) has some pretty useful information, not to mention tools that can save you all kinds of time and headaches — best of all it’s free.
