Doeren Mayhew Accelerates Southeast Growth Strategy with Acquisition of Florida’s Berman Hopkins
Doeren Mayhew, the 37th-largest tax and advisory firm in the nation, has acquired Berman Hopkins CPAs & Associates, LLP (Berman Hopkins), a top 300 CPA firm with offices in Orlando and Melbourne, Florida, expanding Doeren Mayhew’s footprint in the state’s central region. This marks the firm’s second Florida transaction in the past year, and eighth in the Southeast, reflecting Doeren Mayhew’s strategic focus on long-term, relationship-driven growth in one of the nation’s most dynamic markets.
Since its founding in 1958, Berman Hopkins has established itself as a leading accounting and advisory firm in the greater Orlando market, providing tax, assurance and transaction advisory services across the construction, health care, distribution, manufacturing and real estate sectors. The firm also serves a national portfolio of clients with recognized expertise in the employee stock ownership plan (ESOP) and governmental sectors, specializing in U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) audit compliance, valuations and strategic advisory.
“We are excited to welcome the Berman Hopkins team. Their strong reputation in Florida and dedication to client success make them an outstanding fit for our firm,” said Chad Anschuetz, CEO of Doeren Mayhew Advisors, LLC. “They bring exceptional talent in key complementary sectors critical to our growth, including construction, while also adding specialized expertise that creates new opportunities for us to scale strategically across the firm.”
Berman Hopkins’ established construction practice, alongside Doeren Mayhew’s continued acquisition of firms with deep construction expertise, is expected to further elevate the firm’s national ranking on Construction Executive’s Top Construction Accounting Firms™ annual list.
Berman Hopkins adds nearly 100 employees to Doeren Mayhew, including nine principals to its leadership team. Christopher McDirmit will continue leading the central Florida offices as managing principal, while the remaining former partners, including Jason Berry, Sean Cedar, Agnes Gregory, Joseph Jones, Justin Knox, Jason Miller, Laura Anne Pray and Steven Rivera, join the firm’s leadership team as principals. The acquired firm will now operate under Doeren Mayhew’s alternative practice structure, including Doeren Mayhew Assurance and Doeren Mayhew Advisors, LLC.
“As we looked to the future, our leadership team focused on finding the right path to better serve our clients and create even greater opportunities for our people,” said McDirmit, Berman Hopkins’ managing partner. “Doeren Mayhew strengthens our ability to advise clients across every aspect of their business, amplifying the strategic impact we deliver as trusted leaders. Equally important, it aligns with our people-first culture, ensuring we continue to invest in our team and empower them to build truly purposeful careers.”
